The Manitoba Government updated the public health order to prohibit non-essential travel to the Northern Manitoba (north of the 53rd parallel of latitude) with some exceptions, effective until May 1, 2020. The travel restriction was lifted and reintroduced multiple times afterward, as it effectively prevented or reduced the spread of COVID-19 in First Nation communities in Northern Manitoba. The First Nation leadership and the Manitoba First Nations Pandemic Response and Coordination Team (PRCT) worked closely with the provincial government to decide whether to maintain or lift the travel restrictions.
