Between Dec. 19 and Jan. 9, 26 improperly stored and potentially unviable doses of COVID-19 vaccines were mistakenly administered to citizens of the God’s Lake First Nation. The Nation was not informed of the errors until Feb. 4, and Chief Hubert Watt expressed his disappointment. On Feb. 8, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) sent a team of health professionals to meet with impacted people and discuss next steps. A doctor was available on community radio to explain the situation and answer questions. A review of the mix-up was conducted, and ISC said it had put mechanisms in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
