In May, COVID-19 spread fastest in Manitoba among Canadian provinces and U.S. states. Grand Chief Arlen Dumas urged cooperation with federal and provincial governments to curb cases and promote First Nation vaccination.

The Report 11 of the Auditor General of Canada was released and stated that while Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) quickly supplied personal protective equipment (PPE) to many Indigenous communities, they failed to address more than half of the additional needs that Indigenous communities had because of the pandemic. The Assembly Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) urged ISC to work with the First Nation leadership in Manitoba to address the ongoing shortage of health staff in their communities.
